Class Trip to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island

Fifth grade students from 5-409 took the ferry to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island from Battery park, Manhattan to learn about the world-reknowned symbol of freedom and immigration dating from 1892-1954. We learned about the inspection process, medical examination, items European immigrants would bring, and how immigrants were greeted upon arrival to New York City. We had an audio tour around Liberty Island, and at Ellis Island Museum looked at original artifacts from the 19th and 20th century.
