P.S. 89Q

Running Club

P.S. 89Q has partnered with New York Road Runners to offer a free running program to our students known as the Rising New York Road Runners. The goal of adapting this program at our school is to provide students with additional  weekly fitness activities in school. Students  practice goal setting and  track their running and walking progress. This is a non-competitive program designed to encourage our runners to build leadership, develop sportsmanship, teamwork, learn about the importance of movement, setting goals, endurance, dedication, and commitment, and of course to have fun through running.

Our runners practice weekly and are given an opportunity to sign up for city wide race events where they run alongside other runners from around New York City. Our runners win incentives for meeting session goals and a few have also won free sneakers donated through NYRR. We have dedicated staff members who have volunteered to lead, coach, and inspire our runners to be a better version of themselves. The Running Club at P.S. 89 is open to all students, however, selection if based on availability of  resources such as space, schedules, coaches, and interest level of our students.
