Monthly Parents Letter

November 25, 2019

PS89Q held a parade in which students from each class dressed up like characters from their favorite books. 

Parents crowd around the schoolyard to watch their children parade. 

After every group had paraded in the schoolyard, teachers and other staff made one round while their students clapped and cheered.

Our P.S. 89 Runners participated in a 1.2 mile race at the Popular Brooklyn Half marathon in Coney Island, Brooklyn, on Saturday, May 18th, 2019. Our runners were first able to cheer on our very own coach, Ms. Ng as she ran and completed the 13.1 half marathon. Our P.S. 89 5th grade runners participated in a 200 meter dash and a 100 meter dash to the finish line at Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island. They participated in post race events as well such as Zumba, obstacle courses, and virtual running races. We had parents join us and cheer our students on from the bleachers as well as all of us coaches, Ms. Ng, Mr. Matruski, and Mrs. Vascones.

Picture from the animal show.  K-129 Ms Macchione and Mrs Hannons class loved the animal show! Our favorite animal at the show was the bunny and snake!!

This was our 3rd Mobile Ed Science Show. 

All our students were treated to:

"BOT: The Secret Life of Robots" 

The students learned all about different types of robots, and the many different jobs they are used for. 

It was an interactive show. Students were invited to work with different robots, go up on stage to act like robots, and race robots.

In December and January, PS 89 5th graders are studying ocean animals, and writing informational articles about the animals they are researching.
